(1.) Heard Mr. Bharat Tiwari, The Learned Counsel for the petitioners and Mr. Subhash Upadhyay, the learned Standing Counsel for the State.
(2.) The petitioners have challenged the cancellation of their appointment letters.
(3.) The facts, leading to the filing of the writ petition is, that in the first quarter of the year 2000, vacancies in different categories of posts in Minor Irrigation Department was notified by the Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation Department, U.P. Lucknow, inviting applications from eligible candidates. It is alleged that the post of Mechanic was also notified and the petitioners submitted their applications for appointment on the post of Mechanic. It is alleged that in August 2000, a Selection Committee was constituted, in which the petitioners appeared. It is alleged that the Selection Committee recommended the names of the petitioners, pursuant to which, the Chief Engineer issued an appointment letter dated 27.09.2000. Based on this letter, the petitioners applied for joining before the Assistant Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Udham Singh Nagar, on 15.12.2000.;
